Three-Card Spread
Magick
as part of the now standard practice for undergoing the ritual devised by ten of swords, one of the key points in the preparation phase for it is to do a divination.
generally speaking, this is done via a three card spread, with the center card ( revealed last ) being representative of the person’s character. the other two cards are representative of the present moment ( the left card, which is revealed first ) and the potential future ( the right card, which is revealed second ). all together, the combined meanings and symbolism of the cards drawn can give an idea of how well the ritual might go at this point in time — a particularly bad spread might serve as a warning sign that this person should not undergo the ritual under these conditions, or at the very least not at this point in time.
of course, tarot is far from an exact science, and is highly subjective when it comes to interpretation. ten of swords is not liable for anything that the cards may say, or any outcomes that may occur when following this method, regardless of the spread.
for best results, the center card, the one representative of your character, should be burned at the beginning of the ritual along with a branch cut from a rowan tree — this ash should be used for casting a circle. some may argue that it’s simply a placebo effect, but it has been documented to have protective properties for centuries… wouldn’t you rather be safe than sorry?
