centuries ago, undergoing the ritual to become a SWORDSWORN was a sacred duty for those with the strongest of wills.
a permanent sacrifice to split your body and soul into two entities: the soul to become a living instrument of arcane destruction, and the body to remain as the hand to wield it.
even so… as time passed and human society evolved, these arcane knights slowly faded away into something of a myth or legend — seen as a dangerous path in life full of terrifying unknowns, with little concrete knowledge documented about the nature of the swordsworn themselves.
still… times may change. the laws of magick don’t.
humanity, with all its technology and toys and tricks, is still feeble against the might of the occult — there will always be things in this world that we lack the capability to understand.
in the face of both new and returning dangers, it turns out theurgy is needed moreso now than ever before: many people believe that this is the natural next step in the chain of evolution, both to transcend the bonds of humanity and to protect what remains of it.
